Cooper Anstett – For a Reason ← Back to the catalog

Life takes unexpected turns along the way and being open to change can present new opportunities. At 20 years of age, Cooper has spent the previous 16 years developing a hockey career that consumed most of his free time. Life was a singular addictive pursuit with little spare time for other interests or to explore new ventures. And then change is thrust upon the best made plans. A broken ankle repaired with a titanium plate and a parent battling cancer hastily switched the familiar tracks of life that he had been traveling. Fortunately, Cooper has had a secondary passion for music that quickly filledhis recovery time and uncovered an
alternative career path.
This new focus generated the lyrics and melodies for two self- produced CD’s, a high school band and a summer of local venueperformances, including an opening act selection for Donavon Frankenreiter in Ocean City, MD. Then there was a successful performance at American Idol Detroit cut short by the start of a first year of college. However, these events ignited the self-validation of Cooper’s talent.
Cooper carries the combined influences of his early favorites in Jack Johnson, Amos Lee, Ben Harper, Mason Jennings and Donavon Frankenreiter. He has honed his own mature, rich vocal texture that doesn’t quite fit his youthful appearance. More importantly, as a songwriter, he has a knack for creating unique melodies that imply there is much more to come from Cooper.
